The Studio

Ah yes the gear list, it's what everybody wants to know about and compare notes and ask the proverbial question... "why do they use that gear?" I am no different, I want to know what you use, and why? I have learned some of the best tips and tricks and products from other studio and professional musicians from around the world.

I am continuously researching the latest new and old gear alike to best suit my needs. Currently I am using all Apple computers for all DAW applications, such as Pro Tools 8, Digital Performer 7 and Numerology. Some hardware pieces currently in use are from Apogee, Eventide, Event, and Furman.

I am also currently researching the modular gear available from the following manufactures: Moog, Synthesizers.com, Moon Modular, Club of the Knobs, STG Audio, and Modcan. I am fairly certain that I will center 90% of my modular requirements around one of these manufactures, and add a few of the other manufactures "unique modules" to compliment my system.

The Equipment - updated JANUARY 2010

My current main computers are an Apple iMac 27" and a MacBook Pro 17". I will need to aquire another MacPro Tower in the near future for the PCIe cards for the ProTools core card and HD Accel system. Plus to intergrate the Apoogee AD16X and DA16X audio interfaces as well. I will of course utilize dual 30" Cinema Displays.

I am still trying to come up with that perfect modular system for the Markk II Studios main room. It may have to be a combination of several product lines, or several separate systems tied together if necessary. I am no longer going to just be stubborn and have to have just one product line... it just won't work, I need Bruce Duncan's Quantizers pure and simple, they are the best, and I "prefer" Roger Arrick's Synthesizers.com line for a majority of the line... and I really love some of the new Moon Modules, but I still want a Moog 921A/B clone set for my Oscillator's... those I have looked into making myself.

Currently in use in the studio: Digidesign ProTools 8 HD, with an Apogee's X Series for all computer based recording. Event ASP-8 Monitors, Furman AR1215 Power conditioner's, Mogami cables throughout. I have definitely decided on my first choice of consoles, SSL's AWS 900+ SE. Solid State Logic is a trusted name throughout the industry and the product line speaks for itself. I demo'd one of these consoles about a year ago, so I have already seen and heard it's performance.
